Hey guys.

I'm, having a recurring problem with my USB interface, (MBox) and I'm wondering if any of you who might use the same one have run across it, and might have the solution for it.

Here's what's happening: The Mbox is dead quiet, sounds great...until I start Pro Tools. Then I can hear a faint, shrill hum in the background. I've had the unit checked out, and it came back with a clean bill of health. This is driving me nuts!

Thanks

Hi Jerry,

It would be helpful to know your computer and audio setup, particularly what kind of sound card and cabling you're using.

Also, where exactly is the noise coming from? Reference monitors? Computer speakers? Headphones? Inside the computer itself?

I was having the same problem, turned out to be my firewire drive not the m-box. Moved the drive out of the space and sound has been great since.

Hey Jerome.

The PC is a pentium 4 with intel chipset. I've checked the compatibility and the board is compatible. The MBox does the recording and playback as well, (ASIO) so I just use the on board AC97 sound for the PC and let the Mbox handle my voice work.

I was hearing the noise through the headphones as well as my stdio monitors. (Behringer Truth B2030A)

I actually found the problem, though. The fact that the Mbox stayed quiet until I started Pro Tools 6.4 made me think that the problem was software related. So, I did some digging, and found an upgrade that supposedly took care of "random noise." That did the trick. It's working great now.
