Hi Colin - I've worked with PT and currently with AA. I think PT is over rated. It's what everybody wants because it's what they THINK they should have & it's what PT tells them they should have. They have great marketing - and it's bundled with a ton of other products. Pro Tools is the ipod of professional audio editing. Personally I like my Samsung better.
Come to think of it - that's a pretty good analogy.
ipod has i tunes = proprietary format
samsung (and everybody else) = standard mp3
Pro Tools is hardware dependent
Audition is not

Yeah, and unfortuanately, while Pro Tools the software is great, Pro Tools the hardware is only OK.
But since M-Powered came out, they have expanded their options quite a bit in terms of the hardware you can choose. You no longer HAVE to get a 002 or an Mbox to use Pro Tools.
I haven't used the current generation Mboxes, but the original Mbox and the 002s are defintely not the greatest hardware. They just feel like toys to me. |

I use ProTools on Sundays to record our church's worship service. It's a great system - when it works. It seems to be extremely persnickety (to use my grandmother's word). It can be working like a champ one minute and dead in the water the next. When it works though, it's great.
Colin, I assure you the similarity of my avatar to yours is purely coincidental. LOL! Although they say imitation is the highest form of flattery..

| I use Goldwave. It doesn't use much processing power, its EASY to use with lots of bells and whistles. And it didn't cost much. Try it! They also have a demo http://www.goldwave.com/ |
